POSITION SUMMARY:

The Healthcare Simulation Educator is an expert in simulation education whose primary responsibility is to collaborate with unit educators and content specialists on simulation projects for Children’s Health employees, ranging from professional development and patient safety to patient satisfaction. Through the application of various simulation modalities, collaboration with clinical educators utilizing adult learning theory, and strong instructional design, the Simulation Educator's work results in measurable program outcomes in areas such as new hire orientation, ongoing competency, operational readiness, and research/conference presentations.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Education Responsibilities:

  • Function as a simulation expert for consultation on scenario development assuring that scenarios are complete, with objectives and goals clearly written.
  • Ensures the use of the INACSL Standards of Best Practice in Simulation
  • Creates an effective and psychologically safe learning environment in both the training and patient care areas
  • Implements a variety of simulation modalities based on learning objectives and participant needs
  • Assesses customer objectives and needs in assisting with the development of simulation curricula
  • Develops, maintains, and utilizes tools to evaluate the outcomes of simulation education, to include faculty facilitation/debriefing
  • Applies adult learning theories as well as cultural and generational considerations into education development
  • Actively coaches and mentors staff, educators, and faculty in simulation role development through initial and ongoing education.

2. Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Functions as the expert simulation consultant, consistently applying planning methodologies when assisting content specialists with the development, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of simulation curriculum, projects, and scenarios.
  • Plans and implements simulation education curriculum, assists with projects and scenarios, using innovation and creativity
  • Designs and implements evaluation plans for simulation curriculum, projects, and scenarios.
  • Serve as a resource to operations specialist in the clinical use of simulation equipment, as well as assisting in all aspects of moulage or the creation of a hospital or prehospital environment.

3. Leadership Responsibilities

  • Function as a role model and expert in simulation education
  • Promote multidisciplinary collaboration through role modeling and coordination of unit resources through team based simulation
  • Uses the organizational and/or unit strategic plans and goals to determine educational priorities
  • Interprets and uses research and evidence-based best practice standards in simulation
  • Anticipates and forecasts trends in simulation industry
  • Participate on appropriate organizational committees to ensure simulation is utilized as necessary to address issues of education and patient safety.
  • Be active on pivotal committees to assure simulation is a part of implementation and ongoing activities within the institution.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations related to healthcare simulation

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 2 years of healthcare simulation experience, required
  • 3+ years clinical patient care experience, required

EDUCATION:

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, required
  • Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience, preferred

LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Clinical licensure for professional practice (ex. RN, RT, PA, etc.), required
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, required
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Medium - Exerting 20-60 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly
