Senior Director Patient Access Services

Responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of enterprise wide patient access functions defined as scheduling, pre/registration, insurance verification, service authorization, financial counseling, provision of charity, account integrity and overall collection of point of service patient portion collections. The patient access functions are included within point of access areas, such as ancillary/ambulatory, surgical, emergency, specialty care and in-house patients. Navigates through an evolving healthcare system, market and industry to execute against key performance metrics and financial results as related to patient access operations. Maintains a strong institutional presence encouraging transparency and collaboration across system entities and functional areas to advance shared vision and goals for the organization, including employee engagement and satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the appropriateness of routine and complex patient access activities, including overall patient account integrity, to facilitate efficient operations, expeditious reimbursement and optimal customer satisfaction and employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Ensures the appropriateness of all patient access transactions including minimum data set scheduling, coverage eligibility, insurance verification, service authorization requirements and patient portion calculation and collections by ensuring available systems and resources are utilized
  • Leads the development of operational priorities, key performance metrics and successful attainment of performance and quality indicators related to patient access functions in coordination with other Patient Access and Revenue Cycle leaders at CHST
  • Collaborates with Patient Access and Revenue Cycle leaders to develop and execute strategic plans, implement and evaluate operational programs, processes and initiatives throughout the system
  • Possesses a solid understanding of the changing regulatory and reimbursement environment including anticipated impact on payment and collections. Keeps current on regulatory changes and updates and ensures appropriate steps are taken to incorporate them, as necessary, into Children's policies, processes and procedures.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with internal policies and procedures, third party contracts and state and federal guidelines through the management of patient access (HIPAA, EMTALA, Joint Commission, CMS)
  • Builds and maintains the necessary infrastructure and establishes policies and procedures to optimize reimbursement, financial performance and enhance customer service across all patient access areas
  • Administers the annual budget and monitors variances to ensure fiscal responsibility
  • Demonstrates the components of the Children's Health System Vision, Mission and The Children's Way Values
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications include

Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

National Association of Healthcare Access Management CHAM Certification required

Healthcare Financial Management Association CRCR Certification preferred

Epic Proficiency or Certification with ADT/Prelude (Grand Central) required

Epic Proficiency or Certification with Cadence or HB Fundamentals of Billing preferred
