This position is responsible for providing support and assisting the System Safety Department by monitoring and improving general safety. The Safety Assistant will help to maintain and promote a safe environment for Children's patients, visitors, and employees. The incumbent also assists the System Safety Officer, Senior Director of Safety in evaluating, inspecting, and surveying areas and activities to minimize potential risks.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

Assist with planning, conducting, and evaluating Code Red drills.

Assist with scheduling Ergonomic Assessments and obtaining Eyewash/Emergency Shower Inspection Forms

Assists in maintaining educational safety programs for hospital personnel.

Assist in planning and follow up of site inspections.

Updating and revising department policies and procedures and employee education training.

Assist with inspections and environmental tours of the Children's Health facilities to identify existing safety hazards, and other physical conditions that may present a threat to the safety of patients, employees, and visitors.

Participate in the development of the annual operating and capital budget for the department., submittal and tracking of expenditures.

Prepare correspondence and reports requiring some understanding of technical matters; respond to routine and non-routine inquiries using standardized policies and procedures.

Performs other administrative, safety program duties and special projects as required.

Regular contact with all levels of staff to provide and receive information related to safety issues, claims and loss prevention.

Periodic contact with visitors to obtain information and / or resolve safety issues.

Daily to weekly contact with vendors and other visitors to the department to provide information and assistance.

Periodic contact with external local, regional and state agencies

Education Level:

Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience
