POSITION SUMMARY:

Collaborates with and assists Leadership in the quality improvement program for Anesthesiologists for Children to achieve measurable improvements in processes and systems related to patient safety. Facilitates root cause analysis of events occurring during anesthesia involvement. Provides leadership and education to clinical stakeholders. Assists with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating operation and patient safety activities of the division. Acts as liaison for the department of Anesthesiology Quality initiatives.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates and facilitates the investigation, review, and disposition of anesthesia-related patient safety events through interviews, medical record and literature reviews and utilization of appropriate investigative tools. Records and documents activities for each event/grievance in a timely manner.

Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the department's overall Quality Improvement program; reports monthly and year-to-date comparisons; identifies trends, prioritizes, and recommends improvements and ensures Joint Commission/OSHA/CMS etc. compliance.

Participates and prepares for Anesthesia Quality & Safety meetings, including Anesthesia Morbidity & Mortality meetings.

Utilizes high level organizational skills to manage projects.

Provides support of patient safety processes and outcomes to assist Division stakeholders with information to improve patient safety.

Aggregates and analyzes data for quality initiatives; identifies opportunities for process improvement; and works with clinical stakeholders to implement and track changes.

Identifies trends and patterns related to near miss and actual events; develops conclusions and makes recommendations.

Conducts Audits on Division-specific activities throughout all Anesthetizing locations, including weekly medication labeling.

Responsible for timely updates to Anesthesia Division leadership of case investigations, findings/analysis, action plans including follow up of action plans.

Serves as a super user of various software systems such as, Excel, Power Point, Word, EPIC, Access; able to design and develop necessary reports.

Participates in hospital committees as assigned

Develops and updates Anesthesia-related hospital policies and procedures.

Works to develop, implement and drive safety improvements that are measurable and sustainable; helps change culture to incorporate quality methods into daily work.

Conducts special projects / audits as assigned

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 1-2 years of job category-specific experience or other equivalent professional experience, required

2-3 years’ experience in a clinical area; Perioperative / Perianesthesia / Anesthesiology, Other areas as related, preferred

EDUCATION:

Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, required

Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience, preferred

LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS:

RN, RCP, AA-C Certification / Licensure or other equivalent credentials (CRNA, PA, NP, MSN), preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Light - Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly and may require walking or standing to a significant degree.
