Position Summary-PRN and Full Time positions available.

Shifts Available: 0700-1930, 1300-0130. PRN shifts require one 12 shift/week.

Responsibilities in addition to patient monitoring and patient transport include teaching CPR classes to patient families.

Additional responsibilities may incllude venipunctures, IV starts and assist the RN with ICU and ED procedures.

The Paramedic will work under the direction of a registered nurse and/or physician assisting in patient care needs of the unit, patient and family. Activities performed are intended to support, supplement and/or complement patient care provided by nursing and medical staff. This is a part-time position working 44 hours per pay period.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform external transport of patients, as primary caregiver under medical control; perform patient assessment, distinguish between normal and abnormal findings, and able to recognize clinical deterioration; able to operate monitors, IV pumps and other patient care equipment used by transport services; administer and monitor medications as outlined by transport services policy and practice for Paramedic transports; able to follow all transport protocols as directed by medical control for Transport Services; document patient care as specified by department and hospital guidelines; maintain proficiency in the following skills:

  • Advanced airway management and endotracheal intubation
  • Peripheral IV insertion and fluid administration
  • C-Spine restriction and splinting
  • Oxygen and aerosol administration
  • Conscious sedation guidelines

Demonstrate ability to field incoming calls; able to operate all communications equipment within transport services; communicates with personnel internal and exteral in a manner that facilitates the transport process; interact with other health care professionals in a concise and professional manner; maintain transport logs, database information and equipment checks as outlined by transport policy and practice; and participate in department committees, including peer review.

Maintain equipment stock levels as required; assist in educational activities within transport services to including new employee orientation, in service education both internal and external as specified by Outreach Coordinator and Education Coordinator; and perform other duties and special projects as required.



  • Graduation from high school or successful completion of GED required.

Licenses & certifications

  • Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic with current state certification.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS, PALS and ACLS certification is required.


  • At least 1 year experience in acute care/emergency setting preferred.

  • Physical and emotional health adequate for attendance requirements and performance which may include, but is not limited to: recognizing unsafe patient conditions, lifting/transferring patients and equipment plus obtaining supplies as needed.
  • Ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner.
  • Appearance will meet Children's dress code standards.
  • May be required to work under stressful conditions and be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Demonstrates the ability to function independently.
  • This job requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from 0 to 18 years. The individual must demonstrate knowledge in the principles of growth and development over the life span, must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and must be able to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
