This role is responsible for planning, organizing and directing designated strategic and business opportunities in support of the mission, vision, and goals of the Facilities and Real Estate Division. The Manager of Capital Project Management is responsible for the management and coordination of the construction portfolio, renovation, and facility improvement projects. The Manager of Capital Project Management oversees the project managers within the portfolio, assures adherence to scope, schedule and budget for projects across Children's Health. The manager is responsible for developing relations with clients, vendors and governmental agencies relating to the communication and coordination of complex, multi-phased projects.


Typically manages professional staff and/or team leaders over multiple teams

Typical span of control: Administrative 8-10, Clinical 10-13, Support Services 11-13; e.g. Admin: Fin, IT, Legal, HR, Public Affairs; Support Services: EVS, Security, Engineering, Food Services.

Accountable for the performance and results of a team or multiple teams within own discipline

Adapts unit plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges

Provides guidance, coaching, and feedback to team leaders on effective management techniques

Makes employment decisions for the team, seeking direction from more senior leaders on more complex situations

Decisions are guided by policies, procedures, and functional priorities; receives guidance from a higher-level manager on high-impact decisions

Monitors quality metrics and changes in practice that impact clinical, financial, or operational outcomes and develops action plans to address areas for improvement

Provides guidance to others as needed for non-routine and/or complex problems/situations

Monitors and manages a budget for defined area of responsibility


Manage staff to assure they are meeting individual / group goals and lead project teams toward identified outcomes. Direct project support team and all personnel resources necessary for the entire program. Monitor progress of all projects. Lead, manage, develop, mentor, provide leadership and monitor the Project Team in terms of evaluating upcoming opportunities, forecasting projects, scheduling, providing design intent and standards surrounding all design components.

Manage staff resources to ensure proper staffing availability and resource loading are appropriate for each SPM / PM's roles and responsibilities.

Apply defined project controls to identify, communicate and manage project scope, goals, project plan and project process / performance.

Effectively manage the project controls of complex processes. Identifies barriers to project success; negotiates through barriers with major stakeholders to keep progress on track. Assist with defining and documenting project objectives and strategic approach.

Responsible for project financial development and tracking of existing overall program. Identify and recommend solutions for capital projects both short and long term.

Communicate frequently with Senior Leadership through presentations, verbal communications and written correspondence. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum 5 to 7 years of people management and related experience required

Minimum 8 to 12 years of project management related experience required

Minimum 5 years of HealthCare and multi-facility management experience preferred

Proven track record of managing multiple renovation and new projects concurrently required


Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

Bachelor's degree in Architecture / Engineering preferred

Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience preferred


ASHE Certified HealthCare Constructor preferred

ASHE Certified HealthCare Facilities Manager preferred

Professional Engineer preferred
