POSITION SUMMARY:

This job is responsible for the accurate interpretation and translation of health care information to and from Spanish-speaking

patients/patient families and health care providers as well as other specialties involved in patient care.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accurately interpret medical and health care information/instructions from physicians, nurses or other health care staff for Spanish-speaking patients/families; and accurately interpret questions and/or concerns from Spanish-speaking patients/ families to physicians, nurses or health care staff by following the National Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care.

Translation of consent forms, discharge orders, patient education, and similar from English to Spanish or vice versa.

Assists in obtaining patients/families' signature where appropriate; and provides information regarding health care related cultural issues/needs of Spanish-speaking patients/families to hospital staff to develop sensitivity.

Keeps accurate information right after each encounter or translation in the Language Access Services EPIC scheduling system.

Assist with varying departmental activities and projects as requested by team lead or management; and performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Ability to meet physical and non-physical demands as outlined in the job description is an essential function of this job.

PATIENT CONTACT:

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 1 year of job related experience required.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS:

40-hour Healthcare or Community interpreter training on Bilingual Medical Terminology and Pathophysiology preferred.

CMI or CHI certification preferred.
