Position Summary:

The Development Writer fulfills the writing and editing needs of the Foundation, primarily for front-line fundraisers and executive leadership by researching and writing a variety of programmatic grant proposal materials, stewardship reports and other donor communications.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Actively create high-quality current materials for the benefit of the Foundation for use in grant requests, stewardship reports, and donor communication.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of institutional funding opportunities and fundraising priority areas. Work with departments across CHST to gather information and conduct follow-up as needed.
  • Collaborate with gift team and make recommendations about funding opportunities and options
  • Craft strategic, programmatic proposal templates from raw clinical and institutional information and data, conveying needs and impact in ways to gain the interest and approval of a grantor or donor. Work with gift team to craft responses to specific donor questions and comply with unique requirements. The ability to recognize needed strategies is key to the success of the request for grants and donor gifts.
  • Prepare annual stewardship reports for various funding areas
  • Research and create well-informed executive level correspondence to donors
  • Provide editing expertise for all Foundation staff


  • 3-5 years of professional experience writing and editing required
  • Non-profit fundraising experience preferred
  • Healthcare industry writing and editing preferred

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
