Position Summary

This position is for Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Stewardship. Hours are Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm.

The role/responsibilities of this position includes: Member of the infectious diseases team and is assigned primary responsibility for providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients treated with antimicrobials; collaborates with pharmacists, medical staff, nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and cost effective antimicrobial drug therapy; Duties include leadership of the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP), daily patient care rounds with the infectious diseases consult services, research, teaching and quality improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Participate in the planning, development and monitoring of patient treatments. Investigate therapeutic alternatives and recommends or initiates the management of patient-related problems based on interpretation of relevant literature and clinical experience.
  • Work with other health care providers and relevant committees to develop programs for improving drug use and quality of care including development and management of pharmacotherapeutic protocols.
  • Directs development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical pharmacy services in the specialty area.
  • Routinely review biomedical and pharmacoeconomic literature relevant to the pharmacotherapeutic management of patient populations.
  • Provides leadership/mentorship to the clinical pharmacists and pharmacy residents.
  • Assumes responsibility for the education of all members of the health care team involved in patient pharmacotherapy. Serves as preceptor to pharmacy students, residents and fellows. Routinely provides drug information and presentations to the patients/caregivers, medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff.
  • Identifies therapeutic categories and individual agents warranting drug utilization review. Develops and conducts drug utilization evaluation in these targeted areas and presents data to appropriate hospital committees.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and participates in scientifically valid and ethically designed studies. Presents research results at professional meetings and/or publishes results in the professional literature.
  • Respond to code and /or trauma pages when received.
  • Work collaboratively in development, implementation and ongoing review of Epic order sets.
  • Participate in continuing education programs, in-services, and workshops to maintain current knowledge and enhance professional growth.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required

Education

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy, required.
  • Completion of a pediatric clinical pharmacy residency or equivalent experience, required.

Licenses & certifications

  • Current Texas Pharmacist license, required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required within 90 days of hire, required.
  • IV Certification, required.
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification or board eligibility, required.
  • Texas State Board of Pharmacy preceptor certification required within 90 days of hire, required.

Experience

  • Five years of previous hospital experience post Pharm.D or PGY2 training, required.
  • Meets PGY2 preceptor requirements as defined by ASHP, required.
