Sickle Cell/Hematology Social Worker-Full Time

Full time Sickle Cell/Hematology Social Work position on our Dallas campus working Monday through Friday day hours. This position is responsible for completing psychosocial assessments on patient family’s ability to meet their child’s healthcare needs. This position specializes in helping those families adjust to acute and ongoing medical stressors, providing psychosocial support for inpatient and outpatient Sickle Cell/Hematology patient families. This position works with our Sickle Cell/Hematology families to help facilitate their coping and effectively deal with the onset of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with their medical experience. This is a full-time day position but flexible work hours will be necessary to facilitate involvement in special projects (camps, parent support groups). This position also will have some on-call responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

?Perform psychosocial screening and assessment of the family’s ability to meet their children’s healthcare needs; obtain information from patients/families; based on assessment and as appropriate, diagnose, provide therapeutic interventions and make referrals as appropriate for families in crisis; and provide supportive counseling to aid adjustment to illness and hospitalization.
?Provide evaluation and treatment services to Sickle Cell/Hematology patients and families with complex psychosocial needs.
?Coordinate anticipatory discharges to ensure that patient’s home-care is prearranged prior to leaving the hospital; and prepares and maintain required documentation for each patient/case.
?Assess children and adolescents for suitability for psychotherapy and when appropriate provide time limited clinical therapeutic services to hospital patient families as referred by hospital staff.
?Responsible for child abuse evaluation and referral; participate in psychosocial conferences and in crisis intervention; and perform other duties, including administrative duties, and special projects as required.


?Master’s degree in social work is required.
?Texas LMSW or LCSW licensure is required.
