POSITION SUMMARY: Child Life Assistant
This job is responsible for activities in the playroom while monitoring the safety of the children as well as providing a child friendly environment. This is a PRN weekend position, working Saturdays and Sundays 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Minimum of four shifts per month required.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a safe environment in the playroom, monitor general health needs in the playroom and ask for assistance from nursing when appropriate; provide toys and activities that are appropriate for a wide developmental range of children; take developmentally appropriate toys and activities to individual patients confined to rooms; and set up the playroom activities, supervise the activities and clean up area.
Provide input to the Child Life Specialist about observed specific needs of individual children; determine when the needs of individual children should be attended to by medical professionals and / or outside the general scope of the role of the Child Life Assistant.
Provide guidance to community groups visiting the playroom(s); supervise volunteers assisting in the playroom; assist with acceptance of donations and materials handling for the department.
Ability to meet physical and non-physical demands as outlined in the job description is an essential function of the job.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Direct - Indicates that the person in the position directly provides care, treatment or services to the patient. Ex: Nurses, Physical/Occupational Therapists, RCPs.
Minimum 1-2 years of job related experience required
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school required
Some college coursework in child development required
