The Anesthesia Technician (AT) is an essential member of the Anesthesia Support Team. Anesthesia Technicians assist licensed anesthesia providers in surgical and clinical care settings. Primary duties include but are not limited to: the preparation and set up of appropriate equipment and supplies, extensive skill in using and maintaining anesthesia equipment, and providing assistance with hands-on patient care (if applicable).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Monitors and maintains all anesthesia-related equipment

  • Responsible for inventory of all supplies used by the anesthesiologists in the OR and other remote areas
  • Identify and assemble various types of intubation equipment such as blades, fiberoptic scopes, as well as other special equipment and supplies required for difficult intubations
  • Assist with routine to complex surgical cases before, during and after anesthesia procedures
  • Perform Point of Care Testing as requested
  • Assist licensed personnel with non-invasive patient care as directed
  • Assist with placement of invasive lines, intubation, and regional anesthesia
  • Assist with patient transport under the direction of a licensed provider
  • Participates in education of new staff members as well as ongoing educational programs for department
  • Participate in new product evaluation at the direction of manager.
  • May participate in directing activities of team members as Charge AT or in absence of Charge AT, and carry trauma pager
  • Collaborate with external departments such as Perioperative Services, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Supply Chain

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school preferred

Licenses & certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required

  • PEARS (Levels - AT I, AT II) is preferred.
  • PALS (Level - AT III) is preferred.
  • ASATT certification (Level - AT III) is preferred

Experience

  • 0 - 6 mos of related experience (Level - AT I) is required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of job related experience (Level - AT II) is required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of job related experience (Level - AT III) is required.
