Position Summary:

The practitioner functions as a health care provider for the purpose of providing age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care.

This position is open to experienced Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PA-Cs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•The practice will involve development of a NEW program for the care and management of post-surgical ambulatory patients, bowel management program and care of long term post-surgical needs.

  • Provide education to families/patient and staff
  • Develop practice guidelines for this specific patient population-diagnosis and procedure specific and long term needs
  • Provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment plans
  • Work closely with physicians for development of program
  • Assist the WOCN with ambulatory clinic needs
  • May require limited inpatient evaluation and education on established patients

•This position is a 8hr. 5days (8a-5p) or 10 hrs- 4days a week.

•This position will require credentialing through our Medical Staff Services Department.

Education:

•Master's degree in Nursing or Graduate of an educational program for physician assistants or surgeon assistants accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational programs, or by that committee’s predecessor or successor entities.

Licenses & certifications

•Current RN license (or eligible) in the State of Texas.

•Recognition as an Nurse Practitioner (or eligible) by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners, or

•Physician Assistant (PA-C), licensed in the State of Texas.

•Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS for the Healthcare Provider, and current PALS certification.

Experience

• 2 year Advanced Practice Practitioner experience either PA or NP preferred.

•Must possess the ability to learn and apply new information, knowledge and experiences in a timely manner

•Each member of the Advanced Practice Service will function in a role that, by its very nature, requires a high degree of professionalism. It is imperative that Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants manage their individual performance

•Demonstrate ownership and responsiveness in their customer service approach to patient care and contributes to an atmosphere of teamwork within their group

•This job requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from 0 to 18 years. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and must be able to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures
