Position Summary

The practitioner functions as a health care provider within the Fast Track Urgent Care Services for the purpose of providing age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care.

High patient volume setting; includes weekend & holiday coverage.

This PRN position is open to experienced urgent care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) and Physician Assistants (PA-Cs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The practice will involve comprehensive care and management of patients in the Fast Track Urgent Care specialty setting; practitioner will care for patients with conditions/diagnosis such as URI, cough, fever, vomiting/diarrhea, rashes UTI, otitis, sore throat, foreign bodies in ear/nose, toothaches, seasonal allergies and medication refills.
  • Practitioner will be responsible for obtaining pertinent history and physical examination, developing a plan of care which may include laboratory studies, diagnostic studies medication therapies or appropriate specialty consultations and ongoing evaluation while in the Fast Track Urgent Care Services.
  • This position will require credentialing through our Medical Staff Services Department.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Graduate of an educational program for physician assistants or surgeon assistants accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational programs, or by that committee’s predecessor or successor entities.

Licenses & certifications

  • Current RN license (or eligible) in the State of Texas.
  • Recognition as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (or eligible) by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners, or
  • Physician Assistant (PA-C), licensed in the State of Texas.
  • Current CPR/BLS for the Healthcare Provider, and current PALS certification.

Experience

  • Two years of recent pediatric urgent care experience.

  • Must possess the ability to actively identify new areas for learning; regularly create and take advantage of learning opportunities, and use newly gained knowledge and skill on the job and learn through their application
  • Must possess the ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner
  • Must be flexible and adaptable; conditions and environment are unpredictable and change frequently
  • Must be able to hear the wider range of sound frequencies in order to detect murmurs and other abnormalities
  • Must possess the ability to maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance
  • Must possess the ability to learn and apply new information, knowledge and experiences in a timely manner
  • Each member of the Advanced Practice Service will function in a role that, by its very nature, requires a high degree of professionalism. It is imperative that NursePractitioners/Physician Assistants manage their individual performance
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsiveness in their customer service approach to patient care and contributes to an atmosphere of teamwork within their group
  • This job requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from 0 to 18 years. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and must be able to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures
